Series Book Covers

The goal of this project was to design a cohesive set of covers for the Mageblood Academy series, an urban fantasy trilogy featuring a strong female protagonist in a magical academy setting. The design needed to convey the fantasy themes of magic, danger, and empowerment while aligning with visual trends in the young adult and new adult fantasy market. Each cover was designed in Photoshop to balance series cohesion with unique visual elements for each title.

Target Audience
The target audience included readers of urban fantasy, academy fantasy, and young adult fantasy with strong female leads. The covers were tailored to appeal to fans of similar popular fantasy series by emphasizing magical effects, bold typography, and a central character portrait that immediately signals the protagonist’s role.

Touchpoints
The primary touchpoint was the book covers themselves, intended for both print and digital retail platforms. Together, the three covers established a recognizable brand identity for the series, ensuring visual continuity across the trilogy. The strong use of fantasy iconography and vibrant color schemes helped position the books to stand out in crowded digital storefronts and appeal to genre expectations.
Success Metrics
While the books have not been published yet (but I was given permission to include them in this portfolio), the project was considered successful because the client was highly satisfied with the final designs. The covers effectively reflected the story’s tone and genre, meeting market standards for urban fantasy series and demonstrating the adaptability of design principles to multi-book branding.
